(8)Florida State @ Virginia
The Florida State Seminoles have been one of the biggest surprises so far winning more games through 3 weeks this year than they did in their entire 2024 season (2). Transfer QB Thomas Castellanos has been playing well finishing with 205 yards passing last week on just 13 attempts. Castellanos has also shown a propensity for running the ball leading his team with 27 rushing attempts on the season. The Seminoles will face a Virginia team that is 3-1 on the year after a 48-20 win against Stanford last week. QB Chandler Morris found receiver Trell Harris for 3 of his 4 passing touchdowns and their defense held Stanford to just 35 yards rushing on 31 attempts as a team. Both these teams have been putting up major points with Florida State leading the nation with 58 points per game and Virginia ranking 11th averaging 45.5 points per game. I like Florida State and Castellanos to go on the road and take down a high powered Virginia offense. The point total for this matchup is set at an astronomical 60.5 and rightfully so as both have been scoring in bunches. I’ll take the over in this one for the reasons mentioned above, expect a Friday night shootout.
Best Bet: Florida State -6.5 (-110), Over 60.5 (-110)
(24)TCU @ Arizona State
Another second fantastic matchup on Friday night as the TCU Horned Frogs will travel to Mountain America Stadium to face the Arizona State Sun Devils. TCU and QB Josh Hoover, who has already recorded 1,000 passing yards through 3 games, took down a SMU team that made the playoff last year. Hoover was instrumental in the win tossing 5 touchdown passes in the win. TCU’s top receiver Eric McAlister had an absurd 254 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns in that contest as well. Arizona State got the better of a quality opponent of their own, beating Baylor last week in a tight 27-24 win. The Sun Devils were the victim of an upset loss in week 2 at the hands of Mississippi State and a 58 yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left. QB Sam Leavitt and Arizona State entered the season as the second best favorites to win the Big 12 and will hope to string together back to back conference victories after their win over Baylor last week. The oddsmakers have set the spread in favor of Arizona State opening at 1.5 and already moving to 3.5. I’ll take the better QB in this matchup even in a hostile environment as Josh Hoover and the TCU Horned Frogs continue to roll. I also like TCU RB Jeremy Payne to go over 24.5 rushing yards. Finally, I’ll take the under in this contest as I’m not totally sold on the Arizona State offense so far this season.
