Team Form & Head to Head (Full Card At End)
The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will make the trip to East Rutherford for a meeting with the New York Giants. The Giants lost to the Saints 26-14 last time out after turning the ball over 5 times with 3 fumbles lost and 2 interceptions. The Eagles lost 21-17 to the Broncos last week in a contest that they were leading by as much as 14 points in the 4th quarter before Bo Nix and company led a furious comeback. Going back to last season, the Eagles were on a streak of 10 straight games without a loss before their game last week. When you examine over their last 10 games, Big Blue has managed just 2 wins in that span with 7 of their game totals going under in that time. Head to head the Eagles have won a ludicrous 7 out of the last 8 meetings between these NFC East rivals. These games also tend to be low scoring affairs with the under hitting in 5 out of the last 6 contests between the Eagles and Giants.
Injury Report
The Giants are already down WR Malik Nabers with a season ending knee injury and will be without receiver Darius Slayton due to a hamstring injury. The Giants will turn to slot WR Wan’Dale Robinson and TE Theo Johnson to fill the void. The Eagles defense will get a big boost with the return of standout LB Nakobe Dean who missed the first 5 weeks working his way back from a torn patellar tendon suffered in January. Through 5 games this season the Eagles rank 22nd against the run and have just 7 sacks not remotely close to the output from last year and Dean could be a valuable contributor in both those areas.
Statistical Analysis
The Giants defense has been abysmal so far this year ranking 26th or worse in yards allowed, rush yards, and completions. The lone bright spot has been edge rusher Brian Burns who has already racked up 5 sacks. This will be a good spot for the Eagles offense to get back on track, who won their first 4 games despite being outgained in yards before their loss to the Broncos last week. The Eagles have been average against the run, but their secondary led by young CB Quinyon Mitchell has held opponents to just 58% completion on a putrid 79.7 QBR. The Eagles have been opportunistic on defense forcing 5 turnover in their wins and they will face a young QB Jaxson Dart who is coming off a 3 turnover game.
Reasoning
I like the Giants’ team total to hit under 16.5 points as they couldn’t even manage to hit that total against the Saints who possess much less talent defensively. I also like the Eagles to cover as 6.5 point favorites in this NFC East matchup as the Giants lack a dynamic WR and their defense isn’t good enough to stop the Eagles rushing attack. Therefore I’m also taking Saqoun Barkley to get over 98.5 rushing and receiving yards as he should get plenty of looks against his old team. I also like Barkley’s reception total to go over 2.5 receptions with him catching 3 or more passes in 4 out of his last 5 contests. I usually don’t take player props on the same player, but in this case I made an exception because I like both those lines equally. Finally, I’ll take Jaxson Dart to get under 40.5 rushing yards as I think that line is a bit inflated especially with how fast and athletic this Eagles defensive front is.
